Michaud Accounting Solutions was in attendance last night as a Finalist for the Maine Family Business Awards. The winners were announced live at the event and included Geiger, FHC, Fontaine Family Real Estate, The Nonantum Resort, W.S. Emerson Company, SKORDO, and Day’s Jewelers. Congratulations to all the very deserving winners.

You might say Dean Michaud took a leap of faith in 2015 when he left his comfortable corporate position with a large local employer to start his own consulting business. His first client? The Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland, for whom he served as project manager to implement Sage Intacct, a “best in class” accounting software solution.

Since then, Michaud Accounting Solutions, based in Scarborough, has grown into a full-fledged consulting firm specializing in business process improvement, and accounting software upgrades. The company has established itself as the expert in implementing Sage Intacct for the Roman Catholic Diocese market, handling large scale Sage Intacct implementations for the diocese of Portland, ME, Springfield, MA, Boston, MA, Cincinnati, OH, Denver, CO, and Fort Worth, TX. The company works nationally with a focus on the non-profit marketplace, and locally in New England in all business sectors, most recently landing software sales and implementation contracts with GWI in Biddeford, the Dempsey Center in Lewiston, and Preble St. in Portland. In addition to managing implementations of Sage Intacct, Michaud Accounting Solutions is a reseller of the software.

Starting with just two employees—Dean and wife, Andrea—the company has grown to seven full time employees and increased revenue by 65% in 2018 over 2017 and are on track to increase over 200% for 2019. Dean’s son, Ethan is now working for the family business part time, and last fall the company moved into office space in Scarborough from a home office to accommodate its continued growth.

The family element of the business is integral to the company’s success, Andrea says, “Being husband and wife we are each other’s biggest cheerleaders. We have complimentary skill sets, which truly helps the business grow successfully.” Ethan, Dean’s son, has been a great addition to the company as he learns new skills and is gaining an appreciation of what his father does for a living.

In 2019, the Michaud’s will launch a second business, MAS Integrated Solutions, LLC, a venture for which they received an MTI (Maine Technology Institute) grant to provide a cloud-based software product that addresses a need for its Roman Catholic diocese clientele. It solves a problem for this unique market and fills a gap not currently met elsewhere. MAS Integrated Solutions will also be developing “connectors” for existing software products to integrate with Sage Intacct and other accounting software applications.
